Wood Plantation Shutters can be made from about any tree, but one reigns supreme: Basswood
There are several reasons why the best wood-based plantation shutters made are crafted from this fine tree, including:
- Strength
- Durability
- Resiliency
- Weight
- Sustainability
Basswood is also wonderful in accepting stains and paints, and does so regardless of the color or tone. This makes Basswood ideal for custom interior designs, matching to existing decors and/or refinishing existing basswood shutters.
But perhaps two of my favorite reasons for using Basswood in constructing plantation shutters are:
- Basswood is grown and harvested right here in North America. It’s one of our natural resources and it provides jobs and opportunities to thousands and thousands of families in our nation.
- The Basswood tree is not only sustainable, but is also environmentally important. The tree is quick to grow and commonly sprouts two or more trunks at a time. It provides cooling shade in the summer months and supports a variety of wildlife. Honey bees are attracted to the tree’s fragrant flowers and deer and small animals dine on it’s roots and leaves.
Basswood allows us to construct our plantation shutters from materials all made in America. And, its unique sustainability means we can enjoy all of the many benefits of this strong material without depleting our planet’s natural resources.
